LEJOG Virtual Challenge: Mile Marker 328.7, near Donnington

The hot, sticky weather continued so not much Chicago venturing was had, but I counted my steps and added in a bike ride home from work to move myself 18 more miles closer to my virtual goal.

In my virtual English world this had me venture past Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame. I admit to being a fan ( how can one not love a snarky Maggie Smith) so a stop to wander the grounds would be on the agenda. Apparently at one time you could also book a stay here via AirBnb but alas, no more.

We continue on to the slightly older castle up the road. Donnington Castle is medieval ruin built in the 14th century by Sir Richard Abberbury. It was also owned at one time by Thomas Chaucer, son of Geoffrey, of the Canterbury Tales fame.

It’s 5 o’clock in my virtual travel world, so I’m off to find me a pint or two. There must be a pub around here somewhere. Cheers!
